Day 28: Lucerne to Interlaken

The last destination on our trip - Interlaken. :).

We were looking forward to the pretty little town surrounded by lakes. We took the train from Lucerne and reached Interlaken Ost station in 1 hour. On the way, we saw the lakeside town of Brienz which looked like a good stop for next time. :)

From the Interlaken Ost station, you can either walk the one mile to the city center or take the bus #21. Our hotel - Hotel Blume was right in the center of the small town.

Map of Interlaken area
Referring to the map, the distance from the Interlaken Ost station to the "i" (tourist office) was 1 mile.

We took the bus (CHF 3.5 per person for a one-way ride), which dropped you near the Tourist office and checked into our hotel. Would recommend this hotel - we liked the breakfast that was included, and the service was really nice.
From the hotel, we walked to the Tourist office on the corner and inquired about the paragliding activity, as wherever you saw, you saw paragliders floating above you and landing in the green open space near the center of town. We booked ourselves a paragliding session for the next day. From there we walked through the small downtown area - watch stores, souvenirs, and Schuh's - the fondue and pastry restaurant. We also passed the Casino, where there is a clock made on the grass and we were surprised to see - a statue of Yash Chopra! (Indian movie director). We walked about a mile to the Harder Klum starting point and a little by the river and then came back to the hotel.

The next day, we were up early for our paragliding experience. We were met by the driver near the tourist office and they took us up to the jump point by bus. The ride was about half hour. At the top of the hill, they help you put on the gear - and then one by one, you run off the hill and off you are - floating on top of Interlaken and get a fantastic view of the green hills, lakes and little houses here and there. It was a wonderful experience!
Paragliding over Interlaken

After paragliding, we came back to our hotel, and prepared to check out.

Wish we had more days in Interlaken to include a few hikes in the Swiss Alps...

We took the 1pm train to Bern and then another train connection on to Geneva, as our flight back to London was that same evening.
