Day 2: Sydney - Featherdale Wildlife Park, Darling Harbor

We had initially decided to go to Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. As I was researching more, we came across a link to Featherdale Wildlife Park. It looked interesting as it promised a variety of Australian animals, including feeding kangaroos. The Blue Mountains advertised a steepest train and a cable car. So we eventually decided to go to Featherdale Wildlife Park.
We took the train from Wynyard station ( on George St) and took the connection to reach Doonside. From there, we walked apprx 20 mins to reach the wildlife park.
Adorable koalas fast sleep
It was a good experience. The kids really enjoyed seeing various Australian animals and birds - the Kookaburra, Cassowary, Wallaby, Wallaroo, Kangaroo, Crocodile, Echidna, Guana, among others.
Can feed kangaroos in their enclosure
The kangaroos were in an enclosure where visitors were invited to pet them and feed them ($2 a cup of grass). Kangaroos were docile and very people friendly :).
We got a picture with the koala assigned for picture duty that day. Since koalas are nocturnal, rest were all sleeping, cozy on their Eucalyptus trees. There is no fee to take the picture, and the attendant actually asked for our phone to take our picture. They take a professional picture as well which they sell for a fee.
We were at the park for half a day and then walked back to the station. We were back in Sydney in 40 mins.

Darling Harbor, Sydney
Fireworks display at Darling Harbor, Sydney
In the evening, we went to Darling Harbor. It's a row of restaurants catering to mainly tourists  with cuisines from around the world. We started walking from the Aquarium and crossed the bay and went to the other side where the ferris wheel is. We finally sat down for dinner and as we were walking back home, we saw fireworks light up the sky. It just struck me at the time, that I had read somewhere that fireworks are displayed in Darling Harbor at 9pm. :).
